The Indiana Area Collaborative Team reported that Saturday night of Homecoming weekend did see an increase in the number of people in and around campus, but there were no major large gatherings reported.
Indiana Borough Police said there was a large crowd for the Homecoming Parade, and at locations adjacent to campus along South 7th Street and Wayne Avenue starting in the early afternoon and going through the early evening hours. Officers were present along Philadelphia Street, South 7th Street and Wayne Avenue as those areas were active, but a safe and peaceful atmosphere was reported. Investigations by Indiana Borough Police included theft, medical emergency, MVA hit and run, domestic incidents and DUI. One person, a non-IUP student, was arrested Saturday and charged with DUI and a drug-related offense.
State police also reported a calm night with one large gathering reported, but that did not result in any arrests. One significant incident was reported as police conducted a traffic stop at 11:40 Saturday night in the area of South 7th Street and Gompers Avenue. During the stop, Troopers seized a handgun that was reported stolen out of Pittsburgh. The investigation is ongoing.
IUP police did notice a significant increase in foot and vehicle traffic, and made 23 calls for routine service, including 9 traffic stops, two thefts, one harassment call, and two blue-phone activation responses.
