State police are reminding everyone that there will be an increased police presence this weekend for IUP’s Homecoming celebrations.
Troopers from the Indiana barracks will be aided by other stations in the Troop A area along with members of the canine unit and tactical mounted section, the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement and other department resources as needed. Specific efforts during this time include additional roving patrols and increased traffic enforcement activities.
Troopers will actively patrol neighborhoods and highways in an effort to promptly respond to any criminal activity and traffic violations, including DUI, public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, scattering rubbish, obstructing highways and other public passages. Anyone who sees any suspicious activity should call 911 immediately.
Since there will be police animals in the community, state police remind everyone it is against state law to “intentionally or knowingly taunt, torment, tease, beat, kick or strike a police animal”. This results in a third-degree felony.
