Alex Talmadge fired an even par 72 and claimed his second consecutive District 6 golf championship, and he and his West Shamokin teammates won the team title.
Playing in a steady rain on a soggy Scotch Valley Country Club course, the junior Talmadge cruised to a four-stroke win over Westmont Hilltop’s Caden Miller. River Valley’s Jake Pynos shot 77 to finish third, with West Shamokin’s Logan Geist fourth, with a 78.
Heritage Conference golfers dominated the top ten, with River Valley’s Jeremy Reed placing fifth, West Shamokin’s Gunnar Shoop sixth. Braden Talmadge finished in a three-way tie for seventh, and with only seven golfers advancing to the state tournament next week, he had a chance to make it to State College, but the seventh spot was claimed by Philipsburg Osceola’s Jake Lucas.
West Shamokin took the team title by nineteen strokes over Westmont Hilltop, with River Valley third and Central Cambria fourth.
West Shamokin will play for the state team championship starting with the Regional at Ebensburg Country Club next Wednesday against District 9 champ Clarion. The individual state championship will be contested at Penn State on October 21st and 22nd.
