The Heritage Conference held its basketball media day at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex Tuesday morning, gathering coaches and players to meet with the media, including Your Hometown Radio Stations.
The coaches selected who they believed would be the top four boys’ and girl’ teams – the top two in the North and South sections – in a preseason poll. When the regular season concludes, the top two teams in each section will meet in semifinal games, with the winners to battle in the Heritage Conference championships on Feb. 9, 2018.
For the boys, Purchase Line and West Shamokin, finished first and second, respectively, in the preseason polling for the North, and it was Ligonier Valley and Homer-Center in the South. Purchase Line received six first-place votes in the North, while Ligonier Valley received nine in the South.
For the girls, West Shamokin and Penn Manor both received five first-place votes, but the Wolves edged the Comets in overall polling. In the South, Blairsville received eight first-place votes and Homer-Center received two.
Last season, Saltsburg defeated Ligonier Valley in the boys’ championship, while West Shamokin beat Homer-Center for the girls’ championship.
