The Pirates have made a few changes to the coaching staff, reportedly parting ways with hitting coach Andy Haines and bullpen coach Justin Meccage.
Haines replaced Rick Eckstein in the 2021-22 season after spending three seasons in Milwaukee and one year with the Chicago Cubs. In his tenure, the Pirates finished near the bottom of the league in hitting and run production.
Meccage has been with the Pirates since 2018, joining as an assistant pitching coach before being promoted to bullpen coach in 2020. Despite several injuries to key relievers, like Ryan Borucki and Dauri Moreta, the Pirates had the fourth-highest bullpen ERA at 4.49. They also ranked 20th in strikeouts (22.9 percent) and the seventh-worst walk rate at 10 percent.
