The Steelers have lost starting guard James Daniels for the season due to a torn Achilles tendon. He is the third starting offensive lineman gone for the year, and they’ve played only four games. Center Nate Herbig and tackle Troy Fautanu are also out. Compounding matters is the status of starting guard Isaac Seumalo, who has yet to play this season with a pectoral muscle injury. Seumalo may be able to return this week.
Spencer Anderson, last year’s 7th round draft pick, and this year’s 4th round pick, Mason McCormick will be candidates to move over to the left guard position to replace Daniels Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. Anderson played left guard and McCormick played right guard on Sunday against the Colts.
Anderson had never played the left side before Sunday but he’ll be ready.
Anderson says the young offensive linemen the Steelers drafted in the last two years have to mature quickly.
Coach Mike Tomlin will hold his weekly media conference today, and he is expected to say much about how his defense played in Indianapolis. The Colts shredded the Steelers, especially early in the game and on third-and-long situations.
Defensive back Donte Jackson says the Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott will be a tough opponent on Sunday night.
Jackson knows star wide receiver Cee Dee Lamb will be a factor for the Cowboys.
Yesterday, the Steelers brought in young offensive linemen J.D. DiRenzo and Garret Greenfield for workouts. DiRenzo played in three games for Carolina last year and was waived injured in training camp this season. Greenfield was a teammate of Mason McCormick at South Dakota State who was undrafted this spring and was released by Seattle in training camp.
Dallas is having injury problems of their own. Edge rusher Micah Parsons will miss Sunday’s game with a high ankle sprain and fellow pass rusher DeMarcus Lawrence will miss four-to-eight weeks due to a foot injury.
