IUP coach Paul Tortorella and his Crimson Hawks kick off preparations for Saturday’s Homecoming game against Slippery Rock knowing they are up against one of the PSAC’s best. Slippery Rock was ranked number nine in the nation last week and IUP was number twenty-five. The new DII rankings will be out today.
Last night on Hawk Talk on U92 and Renda Digital TV, Tortorella told Jack Benedict that Slippery Rock is deep and talented and IUP has to line up and be ready for every snap.
Slippery Rock has a turnover ratio of plus-7 and IUP is plus-5. Tortorella says protecting the ball will be very important because neither team gives up many opportunities.
IUP defensive end Maurice Feazell is the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week for his performance in Saturday’s 31-0 win over Clarion. Feazell had six total tackles, 3-and-a-half for a loss, with 2-and-a-half sacks and a forced fumble. The redshirt senior has 97 tackles, two forced fumbles, and 12 sacks for loss in just 34 games at IUP.
