Pitt hung in with Syracuse through the first half last night, but the Panthers went ice cold in the second half and lost, 77-61. The Orange took a one-point lead at the buzzer ending the first half, in the midst of an eleven-minute span in which Pitt did not score a point against the vaunted 2-3 zone for which Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim is famous.
Coach Jeff Capel says his cold-shooting Panthers fell apart in the middle of the game.
Pitt fell to 6-10 and 1-4 in the ACC. Mouhamadou Gueye Jamarius Burton, and Femi Odukale all scored 14 points to lead the Panthers’ scoring. Syracuse was led by their coach’s sons. Buddy Boeheim had 24 points and his brother Jimmy scored 18.
Pitt plays Louisville next on Saturday at the Petersen Events Center. They lost to the Cardinals on January 5th, 75-72.
