BOYS SOCCER
United tripped up West Shamokin, 3-2 in overtime. Gideon Bracken got the game-winning goal into the right side of the net from about fifteen yards out as time was winding down, it was his second goal of the game. Garin Fischer had the other Lions’ goal and he and Bracken each had an assist. West Shamokin’s goals were scored by Coleman Stockdale and Andrew Krizmanich.
West Shamokin put plenty of pressure on United goaltender Jackson Wirick, who stopped 18 of 20 shots.
United is 4-4-1 and takes over first place in District 6 Class A.
VOLLEYBALL
Indiana continues to dominate Section play, taking a five-set thriller from Greensburg Salem last night. Indiana fell behind two sets to one after dropping the first set 25-20, winning the second, 25-18, and losing the third, 25-17. They took the fourth set 25-23 and clinched it in the fifth, 15-10.
Paige Fisanich had 17 kills and 10 digs. Stella Stossel had 13 kills. Addie Stossel had 9 kills and 11 digs. Rebecca Roccetti had 11 digs and 7 aces. Hannah Cowburn had 43 assists. Emily Ferrero had 3 blocks and Rylin Blustone chipped in 2 aces. Indiana is 6-1, 6-0 in the section.
BOYS GOLF
Indiana had three golfers in the first round of the WPIAL Finals yesterday and sophomore Chace Force advanced to the second round, shooting an 83 at Southpointe Golf Club. He’s tied for 34th heading into the final round next Tuesday at Oakmont Country Club. The top fourteen will move on to the state tournament. Ryan Bell (87) and Drew Brocious (88) did not advance.
