State police fire marshals are saying today that the fire that killed a Marion Center man early Saturday morning was accidental in nature.
As we reported, fire crews were called out early Saturday morning to a home on Skyline Dirve. Fire crews discovered the victim, later identified as 76-year-old John E. Wetzel, dead at the scene and notified the state police to assist with the investigation. State police sent fire marshals and members of the Troop A Criminal Investigation Unit to help find a cause of the fire. Crews from five fire departments were eventually called to the scene to help put out the blaze.
While the investigation is on-going at this time, investigators believe that the fire was accidental based on witness statements and evidence at the scene. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown.
