We’ve reached the halfway point of the high school football season with the last two undefeated teams in the Heritage Conference playing each other tonight.
On 92.5 FM U92 and on a special Renda Digital TV presentation, it’s 4-0 Cambria Heights visiting 4-0 Northern Cambria in the Coal Bowl. It is the 48th time the two teams have met in the regular season, with the Highlanders leading the series, 24-23-1, plus two more District 6 playoff games, with each team winning once. Last season, the Colts won 28-11 in the regular season and the Highlanders won in the playoffs, 21-12.
Colts coach Sam Shutty says his offense relies on quarterback Ty Dumm, but he’s not the only weapon in the arsenal.
Shutty says The Heights’ defense is strong and fast.
Highlanders coach Jarrod Lewis says this will be a great matchup.
Lewis says one of the keys to the game will be playing solid defense that doesn’t crack.
On WCCS and Cat Country 106.3 FM, and on Renda Digital TV, Homer-Center and River Valley meet up, with the Wildcats hoping to break through for their first win and the Panthers rolling at 3-1.
Panthers coach Jess Houser remembers playing Homer-Center when he played for Blairsville before the merger with Saltsburg created River Valley.
Houser has great respect for Homer-Center coach Greg Page.
The Wildcats’ Greg Page has his hands full trying to stop the potent River Valley offense.
Page says River Valley uses multiple formations to confuse a defense.
The other games in the Heritage Conference include 3-1 Marion Center at 0-4 West Shamokin, 3-1 Penns Manor hosting 2-2 Purchase Line, 2-2 Portage visiting 2-2 Conemaugh Township, and 0-4 Conemaugh Valley at 1-3 United Valley.
The Indiana Total Therapy Pregame Show for the Coal Bowl game on U92 and Renda Digital TV begins at 6 o’clock. For Homer-Center and River Valley on WCCS and Cat Country, and on Renda Digital TV, the ITT Pregame starts at 6:15.
