Local officials are warning residents of potential safety risks associated with injectable diabetes and obesity medications.
Officials with the Indiana County Sheriff’s Office relayed a message from the FDA warning the public of purchasing fake or compounded medications online, as they can be dangerous. Nearly 3,000 calls regarding Ozempic were reported to poison control centers across the U.S. in 2019. Some detailing overdoses and dosing errors, after several medications were either diluted or injected too much.
Knock-off versions of these medications are widely available across the nation and they are either counterfeit, non-sterile or incorrectly compounded. Because of this, Sheriff’s office officials remind residents that they should only use them if they are prescribed by a physician and sold at a licensed pharmacy.
