A Blairsville man was arrested yesterday shortly after he robbed an Armagh Borough service station.
State police have charged 27-year-old Nicholas Empfield of Blairsville with felony robbery and aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault, theft and receiving stolen property and with summary harassment for an incident early Friday at the One-Stop service station on Indiana Drive in Armagh. Police were called out at 6:18 AM and learned that Empfield got into the service station about 12 minutes prior to their arrival and demanded money and assaulted a female employee by allegedly shoving her. As she fell, the back of her head hit a counter top, causing a laceration. After the assault, Empfield went behind the counter to the PA Lottery register and allegedly took $1892 in cash before fleeing the scene.
Police found him at his home in West Wheatfield Township and he was taken into custody without incident.
Empfield was arraigned and placed in Indiana County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for January 19th at 11:30 AM in front of District Judge Robert Bell.
