At a meeting Tuesday night, Blairsville Borough Council instituted a burn ban that will remain in effect until further notice.
This comes after several days without rain, and the ground has become dry enough that councilman and fire department representative Ab Dettorre said it wouldn’t take much to set off a fire.
Mayor Ronald Evanko said that he would like to encourage the commissioners to institute a county-wide burn ban as the county’s fire departments are being stretched.
It’s been roughly 10 days since the last measurable rainfall in the area, according to AccuWeather.
Also last night, council approved a paving contract from Harvey Paving for a portion of Walnut Hill Street. The contract will cost $9836 and will be paid for out of the general fund.
