Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby will remain with the Penguins for two more years after signing a contract extension today.
The agreement with the Pens and Crosby will keep him with the team that drafted him in 2005 through the 2026-27 season and carries an average annual salary value of $8.7 million. Pens GM and President of Hockey Operations Kyle Dubas called Crosby “The greatest player of his generation and one of the greatest players in the history of the game.” He added that “there are no words to describe what Sidney Crosby means to the game of hockey, the city of Pittsburgh and the Penguins organization.”
Crosby has three Stanley Cups with the Pens, is a 10-time NHL All-Star and has two Conn Smythe, Hart Memorial, “Rocket” Richard and Art Ross trophies and several other honors. He leads the team in even strength goals and points and game winning goals, and trails Mario Lemieux in every other major category for the team.
Crosby is about to enter his 20th season with the team and 18th as captain. He only trails Steve Yzerman as the longest-tenured captain with any one team.
