The Penguins win streak continued last night as they won the second game of a back-to-back and the first of a six-game road trip.
Paul Steigerwald has the story.
REACTIONS:
Coach Mike Sullivan says the Penguins are getting off to fast starts in their games, set up by Sidney Crosby’s line, and it’s making a difference.
Sullivan says the top line of Crosby, Guentzel, and Rust is setting a torrid pace because of their chemistry together.
The coach says the points they are piling up with their ten-game winning streak are important, but they’re not what he’s focused on.
Winger Jake Guentzel says the win was an important one to begin the season’s longest road trip.
Defenseman Kris Letang had three assists last night and has seven in the last three games. With a goal and 26 assists on the season, he is a plus-12. He says his outstanding stats are a result of the team playing so well.
Forward Jeff Carter continues to recover slowly from his bout with covid-19. He was removed from the covid list on Wednesday and practiced the last two days, but Sullivan said they decided to give him a couple of more practices before getting him back in the lineup.
A couple of front office moves for the Penguins: hockey operations advisor Trevor Dailey, who retired two years ago after a 16-year NHL career, has signed a tryout contract with the ECHL minor league Florida Everblades. The 38-year-old smooth skating defenseman is going to play some games to help the team deal with a covid-19 shortage of players. He remains a part of the Penguins organization.
And while Mike Sullivan won’t be able to coach the U.S. Olympic hockey team in Beijing next month, Penguins executive Scott Young will join the team as an assistant coach.
