Steelers coach Mike Tomlin will handle the defensive coordinator duties on Sunday against Baltimore if Keith Butler is unable to return from the team’s covid list. Meanwhile the Steelers added star wideout Diontae Johnson to the list yesterday along with center Kendrick Green. Cornerback Joe Haden is also on the list. All could miss the game on Sunday.
Linebacker TJ Watt was named the team MVP yesterday. He said he was especially honored because the MVP is chosen by the team members. Watt has a chance to set the NFL record for sacks in a season on Sunday. He needs one-and-a-half to pass Michael Strahan’s all-time record of 22-and-a-half. And Watt has done it while playing only eleven full games this year. It is the third consecutive season his teammates have chosen Watt as the Steelers’ MVP.
Watt says it’s been a struggle dealing with injuries all year long.
At practice yesterday, guard Trai Turner and tackle Dan Moore Jr. were missing again. Turner has a knee injury, Moore an ankle. Defensive back Arthur Maulet was out with illness. Rookie linebacker Buddy Johnson remained out with a foot injury. Safety Terell Edmunds missed Wednesday’s workout but was a full participant yesterday.
The Ravens injury report continues to list quarterback Lamar Jackson as out with an ankle injury. Also out yesterday were cornerback Anthony Averett, linebacker Odafe Oweh, and guard Ben Cleveland. Four others were given the day off to rest, including former Steeler Alejandro Villanueva.
