The first brush fire of 2022 was reported yesterday in Indiana County.
Indiana County 911 said the fire was called in at 12:45 PM for a location on Smith Road in Black Lick Township. Black Lick and Blairsville fire departments were dispatched at the time. The Black Lick Volunteer Fire Department posted on its Facebook page that a controlled burn had jumped into a goldenrod field. Both brush trucks arrived at the scene and were able to extinguish the small fire quickly, while other crews that arrived on the scene mopped up afterwards.
That was one call for a busy day for the two fire crews, as they responded to two other calls on Wednesday. There was also an automatic fire alarm activation that turned out to be a false alarm. Black Lick and Blairsville fire crews were called out once again at 3:21 PM for the alarm at a structure on Innovation Drive. Black Lick fire officials reported that the business was testing their fire alarms. All units, including Homer City and Coral-Graceton fire units were cancelled at that time.
Black Lick and Blairsville fire crews were also called out yesterday for an initial report of utility lines down at 8:20 AM.
