The injury to Steelers’ punter Cam Johnston’s right leg is as serious as it appeared to be on Sunday. He is out for the season with a badly-damaged right knee, and the Steelers brought back one of their former punters to replace him, but it’s not Pressley Harvin III…they’ve signed Corliss Waitman, who punted for them in two games in 2021. He was the Broncos’ punter in 2022 but last season he was released twice by Denver without appearing in a game.
Another former Steeler showed up on the South Side yesterday. Former top draft choice Terrell Edmunds has been signed to the Steelers’ practice squad off the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad. Edmunds was activated to the Jags’ active roster for Sunday’s loss at Miami and played six snaps. The Steelers will have to make a corresponding roster move to allow them to sign Edmunds. He played for the Eagles and Titans last season.
Pat Freiermuth says it was a relief to sign his new five-year, $49.88 million contract extension on Friday, but he knew the deal was taken care of a couple of weeks ago.
The popular tight end says the negotiations went smoothly and he’s glad it’s over.
Sixth round draft choice Logan Lee’s season might not be over after all. Lee was placed on injured reserve before last week’s game with no designation for return, but he said Monday that he will be healthy before he can return in Week Five and expects to begin practicing as soon as he is eligible. Lee has a calf injury.
