The Penns Manor and Homer City communities came together Friday night during the Comets/Wildcats high school football game to raise funds for Zander Marshall, a local boy battling a rare form of neurodegenerative disease known as Mitochondrial SURF1 Leigh Syndrome.
Approximately $5,274.62 was raised during Friday’s “Green Out” football game, with $4,226.50 coming from stadium activities, 50/50 sales, and game day donations, and another $1,048 coming from T-shirt sales. Additionally, $722 came from Thursday’s benefit volleyball game, yielding $5,996.62 in total for the Cure Mito Foundation.
Wildcats Coach Greg Page said Friday night was more than a football game.
The money gets Zander and his family closer to utilizing clinical trials and research in hopes of one day curing Leigh Syndrome.
The link to donate will remain open until Saturday. You can find it here.
