Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi said after the Panthers’ win over Cincinnati yesterday, “They have a good football team, but we had a better football team today.” Pitt erased a 21-point deficit in the second half to down the Bearcats, 28-27 on a Ben Sauls 35-yard field goal with 17 seconds left. Sauls kicked three field goals in the game, including a 53-yarder, a career high.
Eli Holstein completed 20 of 35 passes for 302 yards and three touchdowns and led the Panthers on four straight long drives for the comeback victory. Konata Mumpfield had two touchdown grabs and running back Desmond Reid ran for 148 yards and caught six passes for 106, including a 56-yard catch-and-run touchdown reception.
Next up for Pitt is the historic Backyard Brawl with West Virginia, next Saturday at Acrisure Stadium.
