A clergywoman from Aliquippa has announced that she will seek the Democratic Party nomination for Pennsylvania governor in next year’s primary election.
Tega Swann made the announcement official yesterday. She is a naturalized citizen originally from Nigeria. Reports say over the last 15 years, Swann has helped with underprivileged populations in Beaver County, and has been an advocate for gender, racial and economic equality in international spaces. She is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in anatomy, the Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge and she is completing her doctoral education in missional leadership at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
Some of the parts of her platform include improvement in the hiring and inclusion of women, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, veterans, youth and the poor in the workforce; alleviating poverty and enhancing welfare programs; expanding the state budget and services for children and youth, and improvement of commerce in each community.
She will run against Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro for the Democratic nomination. Meanwhile the field for the Republican nomination includes 13 candidates.
