BOYS GOLF
What a match yesterday between Indiana and Latrobe at the Indiana Country Club. They were tied, 194-194 at the end of regulation and had to decide it in a playoff. The rules call for each team to select four players in a sudden death format. Playing Number One, Indiana scored birdie, par, and two bogeys for a combined one over par. Latrobe managed four pars for a one-stroke win.
Indiana had four golfers in the 30s, led by Austin Schawl’s one-over 37. Ryan Bell shot 38 and Drew Bricious and Chace Force both had 39s. Caden Force shot 41. Jack Sacriponte and Parker Breck each shot even par 36 to share medalist honors.
GIRLS GOLF
River Valley’s girls golfers are 10-0 after taking first place in a five-team match at Summit Country Club in Cresson yesterday. River Valley shot a combined 146, with Bishop Carroll seven strokes back, followed by Richland, Penn Cambria, and Bellefonte. The Panthers’ Maren Dunlap and Alessia Lamantia both shot 48. Ashley Pynos had a 50, Madigan Dunlap a 53 and Sara Bollinger a 59.
JR. HIGH FOOTBALL
Indiana’s Junior High football team opened its season with a 22-8 win at East Allegheny. Jace Brocious scored on a 21-yard run to start the scoring, with Charles Spells running in the two-point conversion. Then Ben Brocious threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Ben Cowburn. Marlan Byars ran in for the extra point. Later, Brocious hit Byars from 38 yards for the final score. Charles Spells, Reed Ligas, and Anakan Powell all intercepted passes and Gabe Garzarelli and Byars both had sacks. Gavin Walker and Byars both recovered fumbles.
