Paul Tortorella begins his eighth season as IUP head football coach today, but he’s been coaching football since 1985, first at the high school level, then in college. Tonight it’s another season opening game with Ashland. Jack Benedict has a preview.
Tortorella says IUP is looking forward to a big-time atmosphere at Ashland tonight.
The coach says he’s never seen the number of injuries that he’s seen this year, and the season hasn’t even started yet. But IUP will deal with it.
IUP has been especially hurt in the offensive and defensive backfields and at wide receiver.
Tortorella says Ashland has a first-rate program.
Ashland has never beaten IUP in four meetings since 2017, but all four games have been decided by seven points or less. Last year, IUP won at Miller Stadium by a score of 24-17. Tonight’s game kicks off at 7 o’clock. We’re on the air on 92.5 FM U92 at 6:30.
