No way to sugarcoat this…the Pirates were no-hit by the Cubs last night at Wrigley Field. Joe Block has the story.
Manager Derek Shelton had a short, simple explanation for the no-hitter.
Shelton had to scratch Andrew McCutchen from the lineup because of a sore knee. He said McCutchen woke up with the knee feeling “a little cranky,” adding that he did not believe it was concerning.
The Pirates’ start a nine-game homestand tonight. The Bucs will take on the Washington Nationals tonight for the first of four games. Left-hander Bailey Falter [6-7, 4.41 ERA] will start against Nats right-hander Jake Irvin [9-11, 4.08 ERA]. It’s a 6:15 airtime, 6:40 first pitch on WCCS.
ALTOONA CURVE
Altoona was walked off by Hartford last night, 6-5, as pitcher Jack Carey walked two batters and then gave up a game-winning single to the Yard Goats’ Sterlin Thompson. Nick Cimillo had three hits, with two doubles for the Curve.
Po Yu Chen starts for the Curve tonight.
