Desmond Reid ran for 145 yards and a touchdown and ran back a punt 78 yards for another score as Pitt upended Kent State 55-24 on Saturday. Quarterback Eli Holstein made his Pitt debut and was 30-for-40 for 336 yards and three touchdown passes, with one interception.
Pitt will be more severely tested next Saturday when they travel to Cincinnati.
Penn State endured a weather delay of more than two hours before dispatching West Virginia, 34-12. Quarterback Drew Allar completed 11 of 17 passes for 216 yards and three second-quarter touchdowns.
The Nittany Lions will have their home opener next Saturday against Bowling Green.
