Senator Bob Casey is leading an effort to declare a major disaster in Pennsylvania after the heavy rain and flooding earlier this month.
The request came from Governor Josh Shapiro. Casey along with Senator John Fetterman and a bipartisan, bicameral group of Congress members are asking President Biden to help counties that have been severely affected by the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby. Currently, $5 million has been allocated for 28 counties that were put under a state disaster declaration and while that will help with immediate relief efforts, Casey said that more is needed to “sufficiently address the damage and support the long-term recovery of impacted communities.” Indiana is one of the 28 counties that was a part of the disaster declaration.
If granted, the declaration would help those affected to cover their expenses and needs as they continue to rebuild their lives.
