It was a busy Christmas day for Indiana County’s first responders, but the day after Christmas had only one call on record, according to Indiana County 911.
Crews were called out five times on Christmas Day, with the first call at 1:39 AM for a vehicle accident on Moyer Road in Cherry Tree Borough. Cherry Tree fire department, state police and Citizen’s Ambulance were dispatched at the time.
The next calls were in the afternoon, as a gas leak was reported on Blystone Road in Washington Township that brought out the Plumville fire department at 1:44. A structure fire was reported on East Indiana Street in Homer City at 1:58 PM, with Homer City fire department responding at the time.
Two utility line-related calls were reported on Saturday as well. The first was on Clark Street in Conemaugh Township at 8:13 PM, with Saltsburg fire department responding. The second such call was at 10:09 PM on Fir road in Green Township.
The only call on Sunday was a water rescue call on Route 217 South in Burrell Township. Crews were called out at 12:06 PM for the rescue that involved two individuals and a kayak. Ab Dettorre of the Blairsville fire department reported that two individuals took their kayak out on Sunday on the Conemaugh, but fell in the water. They were wearing life jackets at the time and were able to make it to shore. A bystander down river saw the empty kayak and called 911, dispatching water rescue team members from Blairsville, Indiana, Saltsburg and Tunnelton fire departments. The two were rescued from the shoreline and taken back to Blairsville. Both individuals are okay.
