The new year starts on Saturday and it begins with a call for volunteers to take a dip, with the 10th Annual Polar Plunge in Blairsville.
This year, the proceeds from the swim will benefit a four-year-old girl who has B-cell lymphoblastic leukemia. Nannie Meda is a Blairsville Elementary School student who was diagnosed on September 20th and has been undergoing chemotherapy since. She is currently on her third phase, her most intensive yet, and she has had complications, but her family says “She is a fighter and she will beat this.” She will have to undergo treatments for at least two years, and is currently in remission.
Participants are asked to fill out a registration form and donate twenty dollars to do the Polar plunge. All “plungers” must sign a waiver. The forms are available at the Blairsville Community & Recreation Center and can be returned there or brought to the event on Saturday at noon. Sized shirts are available for pre-registrants.
Checks for the Polar Plunge may be made payable to “Friends of Blairsville Parks and Recreation Foundation”. If you’re mailing in a form or would simply like to donate without getting wet, the address is 101 East North Lane, Blairsville, PA 15717.
Ab Dettorre will be a guest on Indiana In the Morning on Wednesday to talk about the Polar Plunge.
