Two more college football bowl games were canceled due to covid-19 yesterday and another looks in doubt, and Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi said he would “make the sign of the cross” in hopes that it would help the Panthers and Michigan State avoid the virus.
Pitt and Michigan State are scheduled to play the Peach Bowl on Thursday and Narduzzi yesterday announced that tight ends coach Tim Salem will be the interim offensive coordinator, replacing Mark Whipple, who has departed for Nebraska.
The Military Bowl in Boston today between Boston College and East Carolina is canceled because BC has forty covid cases. And Wednesday’s Fenway Bowl in Annapolis, Maryland, between Virginia and SMU is off because of covid in the Cavaliers’ program. Miami has pulled out of Friday’s Sun Bowl, so it is in jeopardy unless they can quickly find a replacement team.
One bowl game remains on the schedule today. It’s the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit, featuring Western Michigan against Nevada, with kickoff set for 11 AM.
