The Steelers were off yesterday and will return to practice at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex today, begin preparations for Saturday’s trip to Detroit, where they’ll play the Lions in the final preseason game.
The front office was busy, with three players let go in injury settlements. Wide receiver Tarik Black and defensive backs Nate Meadors and Kalon Barnes were all released after previously being put on injured reserve.
NFL Insider Aaron Wilson reports the Steelers are signing linebacker Kyahva Tezino, who played for the Pittsburgh Maulers in the USFL and the Birmingham Stallions in the UFL this past spring. He was undrafted out of San Diego State in 2020 and has spent time in the NFL with the Patriots, Panthers, and 49ers organizations.
Wilson also reports that former Steelers running back Anthony McFarland has signed with the Miami Dolphins.
And if you’d like to fantasize, former NFL great JJ Watt posted a photo of the Steelers’ weight room and him working out on the practice field on the South Side yesterday. The brother of All-Pro linebacker TJ Watt has teased in the past that the Steelers would be a possibility if he ever decided to come out of retirement.
