The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry says the state unemployment rate went unchanged over the month of July at 3.4 percent.
This marks the 10th straight month Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate went unchanged and it’s up two-tenths of a point from July 2023. The national unemployment rate rose two-tenths of a point to 4.3 percent.
Pennsylvania’s civilian labor force, which is the number of residents working or looking for work, went down 1,000 over the month of July. The decline was due to a drop in resident employment, which was also down 1,000 over the month.
Total nonfarm jobs went up 12,200 over the month to a record-high of 6,191,000, marking the 12th consecutive record in Pennsylvania’s job count. Jobs increased in six of the 11 industry supersectors, with the largest spike coming from the government sector. Additionally, education and health services reached a record high for the 14th straight month.
Countywide statistics are expected to be released on August 27th.
