Fire crews were called out yesterday afternoon for an automatic fire alarm activation at a hunting cabin in East Mahoning Township.
The call came in for Marion Center and Plumville fire departments at 3:58 PM, with Perry Township and the county HAZMAT team called in about a half-hour later. According to a post on the Marion Center Fire Department Facebook page, smoke was seen coming from a hunting cabin as fire crews arrived on the scene at the intersection of Route 119 and East Creek Road. All the doors were locked and they were unable to find the property owner. After the additional units arrived, the property owner returned. The structure was ventilated at that point. Fire officials said that the cause of all the smoke was not a fire in the cabin, but a closed damper on a wood burner.
Fire crews were on the scene for roughly an hour with no property damage or injuries reported.
