Accuweather is predicting that the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby will hit the area tonight and continue into Friday. That could bring significant flash flooding that can lead to rapidly rising water.
The rain is expected to leave the area late Friday night. Accuweather Meteorologist Hayley Taylor said that while the storm is in the Carolinas this morning, Debby is expected to lose wind intensity and become a tropical rainstorm by the time it arrives tonight.
At least two inches of rain is expected, but Taylor said that heavier thunderstorms could bring up to five inches.
This is coming on the heels of some area flooding that happened Tuesday after another major storm came through the area. It resulted in some cars being trapped in a flooded construction zone on Wayne Avenue that required water rescue crews from the Indiana Fire Association to rescue three drivers, then tow three cars when the flood waters receded.
Taylor said the best advice when dealing with a flooded roadway is to not go through it as it is very difficult to determine how deep the water can be.
