Former Ligonier police chief John Berger and an addiction treatment center in Donegal are now facing a lawsuit over an alleged sexual assault.
The plaintiff claims Berger attacked her during her stay at Dreamlife Recovery in 2024 when he was working there as a behavioral health technician. The woman says she met Berger at Dreamlife while they were both being treated there the year prior and then she returned for additional care. An attorney for Berger claims the sexual contact between his client and the plaintiff was consensual and they had established a physical relationship before he was employed at the recovery center.
Berger also faces criminal charges in connection with the allegations. That trial is scheduled for June.
