Democrats in Westmoreland County want ballot drop boxes made available to voters again.
Party officials and some citizens held a rally in support of the boxes outside the county courthouse yesterday. Democrat County Commissioner Ted Kopas says the ballot drop locations were available during the pandemic and made elections more accessible. Republican commissioners Sean Kertes and Doug Chew recently rejected a proposal to reinstate the boxes for the primary and general elections this year.
Kertes says the reason he is not supporting them is they were not used much when they were available.
