Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate went down in the month of January.
According to the state Department of Labor and Industry, the rate dipped one-tenth of a percentage point to 4.3%. That matched the U.S. unemployment rate, which saw a similar drop over the month. Over the year, the unemployment rate went up two-tenths of a point.
The statewide civilian labor force, which is the number of people working or looking for work, went up by 12,000 to 6,583,000 in January. Employment was up by 17,000 over the month of December while unemployment declined by 5000.
The total number of non-farm jobs in Pennsylvania went up 17,900 over the month to a record high of 6,201,900 in January, with jobs increasing in five of the 11 industry super sectors. The largest gains were seen in the education and health services sector, which went up by 10,000 jobs.
