Members of the State Police Troop A Major Crimes Unit are currently investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that happened in Barr Township in Cambria County.
Troopers say that at 7:30 PM Tuesday night, officers were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on an un-named man at a home on Springer Road. A perimeter had already been established when the man emerged from the woods and fired a handgun towards responding officers. Troopers returned fire and fatally wounded the suspect.
Police say there is no current threat to the public. Cambria County’s District Attorney’s office responded to the scene to assist. The suspect’s name will be released once next-of-kin have been notified.
In accordance with state police policy, the Troopers involved have been placed on administrative duty.
