In a public letter to the River Valley School District community, Superintendent Phillip Martell writes of his decision to retire, saying he does so with “a full heart,” thankful for the trust that was placed in him. The River Valley school board accepted his retirement resignation last week.
Martell writes that the district has “accomplished extraordinary things” during his tenure, noting that it’s created “new pathways for students to explore their strengths, interests, and futures.” He says he’s especially proud of the success of the River Valley STEAM Academy, and of the national recognition the district has earned. River Valley was named an AASA National Lighthouse School System in 2023 and was inducted into the Digital Promise League of Innovative Schools in 2024.
