Westmoreland County Commissioner Ted Kopas is taking issue with an agreement the local sheriff has signed with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The disagreement stems from a document Sheriff James Albert signed from ICE last year, saying he would supply deputies for protection and crowd control during immigration enforcement operations. This week, Kopas sent a letter to the sheriff, saying the contract is invalid because only county commissioners have the ability to sign contracts following a public vote.
Sheriff Albert says he believes the contract is legal, according to TribLive.
