It’s Opening Day for the Pirates at Citi Field in New York as the Bucs send Cy Young Award winner Paul Skenes to the mound to begin the season against Freddy Peralta and the Mets.
As his teammates worked out yesterday, Skenes said the Pirates have a chance to be special this year.
Skenes says the early season will tell a lot about the Bucs, but he’s confident they can handle the pressure right from the start.
The Bucs’ ace says they have high expectations for 2026.
The Pirates will wear a special patch on their uniforms to honor the late Bill Mazeroski this season, but they will not unveil them until Maz’s family joins them for the home opener next Friday, April 3rd against the Orioles.
First pitch this afternoon is at 1:15. The pregame airs on WCCS at 12:50.
