A bill that would gradually increase the state’s minimum wage the State House yesterday and is on its way to the Senate.
The bill would modify the Minimum Wage Act of 1968 to raise the wage from $7.15 an hour to $11 an hour by January 1st of 2027, then to $13 by 2028, $15 in 2029 and followed by annual cost of living adjustments. Lawmakers said the bill would also allow counties to implement the $15 rate sooner and set the minimum wage for tipped employees to 60% of the statewide minimum wage.
In a statement, Governor Josh Shapiro said this is the third straight year that the move passed the state house and said that “The ball is now in the Senate Republicans’ court.”
State Representatives Jim Struzzi and Brian Smith voted against the bill.
