The Pennsylvania State Police issued a public warning after reports of scam text messages falsely claiming to be from Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, or PennDOT, demanding payment for nonexistent traffic violations.
Authorities say the messages often include links to fraudulent websites and threaten penalties such as fines, license suspension, or arrest to pressure victims.
Troopers advise residents to ignore these messages, avoid clicking any links, and never share personal or financial information, urging anyone who receives such a text to report it to law enforcement.
