A 36-year-old Punxsutawney man remains in the Jefferson County Jail after police say he assaulted his girlfriend earlier this month, despite initially calling authorities to report that he had been struck.
ExploreJeffersonPa.Com reports, Bradley James Heitzenrater was arrested following the March 4 incident on West Mahoning Street and charged with strangulation, simple assault, and harassment, according to court documents. Police said the woman told officers Heitzenrater hit her and choked her after she asked him to leave the residence, and she struck him in an attempt to get him to release his grip.
Heitzenrater waived his preliminary hearing March 12 before a district judge and is being held on $25,000 bail after being unable to post bond. The case has been transferred to Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas.
