“The Password” unlocked a lead for the Pirates as Jhostynxon Garcia hit a two-run homer to give the Pirates beat the Tigers 7-5 last night in Lakeland. He, along with Jake Mangum and Tyler Callihan combined for four hits, four RBI and four runs. Mike Clevinger picked up the win, going four innings, allowing two runs on one hit with five strikeouts and four walks. The Bucs are back in action this afternoon against Baltimore.
At the World Baseball Classic, the US’s dominance over Canada in sports continues as they won 5-3 last night. Former Pirate David Bednar worked his way out of a sticky situation in relief, inducing a pop-up in the 7th and striking out two with the game-tying run on second base. Next up for Team USA is the Dominican Republic tomorrow. Paul Skenes of the Pirates is expected to start. The Dominican Republic won their way into the semifinal with a 10-0 shutout of Korea. Today, Puerto Rico plays Italy and Venezuela takes on Japan.
