A large solar project that would cover all the electricity needs at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport is not moving forward at this time.
The Westmoreland County Airport Authority Board is not approving a 30-million-dollar contract with Veregy Group that would have funded large solar arrays at Palmer Regional and at the airport in Rostraver. The work would require a bank loan or funding through municipal bonds, which could result in a financial loss for the airport.
Instead, board members will now review a proposal for a smaller, four-million-dollar solar project that could offset at least some electricity costs.
