The state Public Utility Commission is warning utility companies to review and strengthen their defenses against cyber attacks, in light of increasing global tensions and the military action in Iran.
Gas, water, electricity, and communications providers are urged to strengthen network protections, particularly by isolating their systems from public internet. Other recommended actions include improvements to access security, addressing known software vulnerabilities, and enhancing monitoring and incident response planning.
PUC Chairman Steve DeFrank says there have been no specific threats to providers and the commission is working with utilities “to help safeguard the systems that power our homes, businesses and communities.”
