Homer City Redevelopment has issued a statement on the fire at their facility yesterday.
Multiple fire crews were sent out at 8:01 AM for a reported structure fire at the former Homer City Generating site. Officials from the Coral-Graceton fire department said that the fire started as an employee was torching some scrap metal to cut it when the inner liner of the building caught fire. The fire was put out quickly before crews arrived using water from on-site tankers.
Homer City Redevelopment officials issued a statement calling it a welding fire that was quickly extinguished by their workers. No injuries or property damage were reported and the fire did not spread beyond the immediate work area. Operations are continuing as normal at the facility.
