A resolution declaring a day in May in honor of Indiana County’s famous son was referred to a state house committee last week.
The resolution from State Representative Jim Struzzi would declare May 20th of this year as Jimmy Stewart Day in Pennsylvania. It would honor the career of the Indiana native both on the screen and in the military. The exact day, May 20th, is celebrated as Stewart’s birthday in Indiana County with events put on by the Jimmy Stewart Museum. In a statement connected with the resolution, Struzzi said that Stewart remains a big draw for Indiana County to this day with tourists, holiday enthusiasts and film lovers alike coming to Indiana County, and called him “a beloved figure who epitomized American values both on-screen and off.”
The resolution is in front of the House Tourism, Recreation and Economic Development committee.
