The center was named a “Gold Hunger Hero” for its work to provide nearly 17,000 breakfasts and lunches to students in the Marion Center and Purchase Line School District last summer. The Hunger Hero award is presented to schools and community partners who go above and beyond to feed kids in the community. The plan involved two food deliveries to locations in each district each week during the summer, giving kids three days worth of meals on the first run and four days on the second run later in the week. The mobile delivery service plan was made possible thanks to a donation of a minivan from Aetna and Latino Connections and a grant from the No Kid Hungry foundation.
Community Center Executive Director Jennifer Rairigh said last year was the first year for the program and they are already gearing up for this summer, hoping to serve even more children this year.
